When you are doing a surgical procedure, when do you meet with your staff? That’s an important question because planning avoids unnecessary and costly delays in the surgical operatory. Every movement, every delay, cost money. We have our meeting before work. It’s only about a 5-10 minute meeting with my two surgical assistants and with my associate as we go over the cases of the day. It may be even better to do it the day before. That way if materials need to be in the room, they will be in the room before you need them. So try the staff briefing if you are not doing that already. It will help you speed up things in the surgical operatory.
